Named after a branch of physics which studies particles linked to light phenomenons, this essay studies the question of light and its relationship to the construction of an image. An image that is primarily physical, that is to say optical, retinal, which relates to a scientific approach. But also a mental, spiritual image, which finds its meaning in religion, philosophy and art history.

Thesis written under the supervision of Hiroshi Maeda.

RYOJI IKEDA - DATA VERSE 1

Made in collaboration with Ryoji Ikeda during Summer 2019 in Kyoto, Japan.

Starting from the principle of "translation" of mathematical or scientific data adopted by Ryoji Ikeda in his installations, this book depicts the visual data of a still image from data-verse 1 (Ryoji Ikeda, 2019) translated into textual data. The 1,706,400 pixels are then presented in the form of sentences according to their properties: X and Y coordinates in the image, and R/G/B values.

White Bird in a Blizzard is a movie entirely based on the disparition of a mother. You open the book as you find the clues, the images are displayed next to subtitles extracted from the .srt file.

The book is inspired from the Kelvin scale according to the passages from the movie : Warm hues are linked to past and memories, neutral ones to reality, cool hues to the daughter's dreams and nightmares.

A 87,92 meters long leporello showing the nuclear weapon tests which occurred from 1945 to 1965. In 1955, the Russell-Einstein manifesto highlights the dangers of nuclear weapons in a period where atomic tests are becoming more and more important and worrying.
Printed on 70g continuous paper with a dot matrix printer, like the ACARS (Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System).
